Chris Gollon
Chris Gollon is an established name in British painting. Born London 1953, he has enjoyed many solo museum exhibitions in the UK and public commissions. Many major museums also show his work. He has exhibited at Art Chicago and also with Yoko Ono, David Bowie and Gavin Turk in ‘ROOT’, a crossover exhibition of contemporary music and art created by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, at Chisenhale Gallery, London. His work is attracting increasing acclaim in the national press and specialist arts press.
In 2000, Chris Gollon was commissioned by the Church of England to paint 14 Stations of the Cross for the Church of St John on Bethnal Green, a beautiful grade-one listed church designed by Sir John Soane and located next to the Museum of Childhood, London. Award-winning novelist Sara Maitland's book 'Stations of the Cross' is inspired by and reproduces these paintings.
Chris Gollon’s film collaboration with JABOD, entitled ‘Kaleidomorphism One’, was premiered in London at the East End Film Festival (2008). ‘Chris Gollon: Humanity in Art’ by art historian Tamsin Pickeral, endorsed by Bill Bryson OBE, was published in 2010. Chris Gollon was a Fellow and First Artist in Residence of the Institute of Advanced Study, Durham University. He is also a Fellow of St Mary's College, Durham University. Film maker Ronny Haynes has embarked on a series of short films of Chris Gollon working. One a month will be made and broadcast online, building a unique record of Chris at the height of his creativity. Chris Gollon lives and works in Surrey.
