Peter Goodfellow was born in the North East of England in 1950 and studied illustration at the Central School of Art and Design, London. His professional career as a freelance illustrator has been mainly in the field of book jacket, advertising and packaging design. With agents in New York, Hamburg and London he established himself as one of Europe’s leading illustrators.

Since moving to Scotland in 1985, Peter has become one of the best known landscape painters working there today. His passion for these landscapes is evident at a glance, made manifest by his use of vibrant colours and creation of dramatic mood. Inspired by the early Italian Renaissance and German Expressionism, Peter Goodfellow's paintings divine a rich artistic heritage. Colour is the all important ingredient in his oils and water-colours. He often paints the same subject repeatedly to distil colour and form. ‘Raw colour can capture a sense of time and create a sense of mood and atmosphere,’ he states. His work has been widely exhibited, most recently at Oban Duff House, Glasgow and The Leith Gallery, Edinburgh.

Peter's prestigious commissions include one by the Hon Phillip Astor to design and paint a series of art works (24) and 3 stained glass windows for a private chapel in Aberdeenshire. Public and commercial collections of his work are held at the Victoria and Albert Museum; Saatchi and Saatchi; Whitbread Brewery; Penguin Books; Baxters Foods; ICL Computers and Quantas Airlines, amongst others.
