Ilya Zomb studied at the Odessa State Art College, USSR, and majored in fine arts. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, he now lives and works in New Jersey. In Ilya’s paintings, ballerinas, giraffes, and pomegranates appear as if out of a dream or a surrealist vision, but the artist states that it is day-to-day life in New York that inspires his wonderfully imaginative, colourful paintings.Entralled by dancers and by animals, there is a surreal sense of a dream about Noah’s Ark around many of Ilya’s paintings. His images can be theatrical, like dream sequences or scenes from a circus. His works are often dynamic, with an air of celebration, or a grand finale, while other pieces are poignant, peaceful and meditative.
Ilya hopes that viewers will look at his paintings ‘as you would travel to some exotic country and stare in amazement at the strange new world.’ Lovingly observed everyday objects blend with elements of fantasy, creating fascinating paintings. Richly painted and vibrant, this successful artist has appeared in a plethora of publications and received major favourable reviews.Ilya’s work is widely exhibited internationally, especially in New York and USA, and is held in major national collections, such as the Knoxville Museum of Art in Tennessee.
